I wanted to enquire about helping out, I do not have Cancer, but my mother recently passed away (last month) due to liver metastes/cancer, I would really love to get involved and help with families living with the disease, esp young teens and children... ( I am 21 years old)... The process of going for Chemo for their parents must not be easy, and I have seen that process with my mom, so I would like to help in anyway I can.

Hello to you, I have CLL and doing chemo at the moment and I have found that there are so few of us that can talk to some one that has just been diagnosed. I am using this as a example...On Thursday i had marrow taken again and as I was waiting to be done there sat a couple and I had the feeling that I should talk to them. Ok cut a long story short....they were waiting for the results of his marrow and I just told them how I went through that and how my mind worked at the time. I made them smile laugh and cry . They went to the doc I went for my zap. On leaving Groote Schuur who do I bump into.....he has Leukemia and they have to find a match. I spoke a little more and more tears this time and i spoke to the wife and told her what to expect from him as we are the same age 59. She said he is already angry and we spoke for about 10 minutes. She thanked me with lots of tears and he said thank you for talking and said we will talk again. He shook my hand and said thanks for the talk, I said it is a road that I understand and when we see each other we will talk again. I know the feeling and I know how and what is going through his mind and it was a comfort to me as well as him that i could be of help. Why am I writing this...I don't know....maybe just to tell others that we are not different but have something that others don't have. Dont treat us with puppy dog eyes and saying shame, treat us as you would treat yourselves
